The short version
6 Degrees is a free game. It stores as little as it can: one anonymous cookie so you can see your own stats, the scores you choose to post, and your email only if you sign up for the daily challenge. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
Cookies
- kg_pid: a random id set when you post a score. It links your scores together so the site can show your games, best score and daily streak. It is stored only as a one-way hash with your scores, is never shown to other players, and lasts two years. Clearing it simply resets your stats.
- kg_admin: set only for the site administrator after signing in.
- Google AdSense shows ads beside the page on wide screens. Google may set its own cookies to measure and personalize those ads; see how Google uses data from this site. You can opt out of personalized ads in your Google Ads Settings.
What is stored
- Scores: the name you type, the league, the two athletes, the chain you used, your points and time. Names appear on public scoreboards; keep that in mind when you pick one.
- Email: only if you sign up for the daily challenge email. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by replying.
- Hosting logs: the site runs on Vercel, which keeps standard request logs (IP address, browser, pages) for a short period to operate the service.
Your choices
Play without posting a score and nothing about you is stored beyond hosting logs. To remove a posted score or your email address, write to the address on the home page share menu or unsubscribe from any email. Player data comes from public league sources and Wikipedia; athlete photos are served from their league's or Wikipedia's servers.
